Who should be next to take on the role of Bruce Wayne?
The role of billionaire Bruce Wayne, and caped crusader Batman, is a hot topic in Hollywood right now. Given the massive success of the Dark Knight trilogy, even though Christopher Nolan has said he’ll release no more Batman movies, the studios will be keen to cash in on this franchise once more.
We’ve discussed previously who should take the role of Batman, but those were our opinions.
Thanks to a recent survey conducted by Ladbrokes Games, we now know who the public would like to take on the role. Here are the top choices…
Joseph Gordon-Levitt
Who? He made his name on the small screen with hit cult shows Dark Shadows, Rosanne and 3rd Rock from the Sun whilst making himself recognisable in Hollywood with films like 10 Things I Hate About You with Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles. In recent years he’s taken a turn for the more serious with films such as Inception, 50/50 and Looper, and had a significant role in The Dark Knight Rises.
Why? As he’s already featured in the famous Batman trilogy, he has already proved himself as suitable for the tone. This added with his comic turns in other films shows he can take on comic-book humour, making him the perfect Batman.
Bradley Cooper
Who? He’s perhaps most well-known for his role in the Hangover trilogy as Phil, setting him up as a brilliant dead-pan comic actor. However, his recent role in Silver Linings Playbook as Pat has made Hollywood sit up and pay attention, proving he’s not just a one-trick pony with a spell-binding performance.
Why? He has the good looks which Bruce requires, and he looks like a wealthy individual. We reckon he could definitely beef up for the role, and has proved he can take on as challenging a role as anyone else on the list.
Jake Gyllenhaal
Who? Originally a cult hero thanks to his turn in obscure film Donnie Darko, he proved he had a face for blockbusters in The Day After Tomorrow and Prince of Persia. However, it was his role opposite Heath Ledger in Brokeback Mountain that gained him a huge following thanks to his amazing and challenging performance.
Why? Jake has proved he is capable of taking on difficult roles and making them amazing, plus he has lots of links to the Batman trilogy. His sister Maggie had a huge role in The Dark Knight, whilst he was firm friends and acting partners with Heath Ledger, who starred at the Joker.
Ryan Gosling
Who? He had lots of minor roles in TV series’ and made-for-TV movies making him a recognisable face, but it was his turn in The Notebook which made him into a star and a heart throb. Ryan has proven his acting capabilities in Drive, Blue Valentine and Crazy, Stupid, Love, while he’s looking to turn to directing shortly.
Why? Ryan is cinema’s sweetheart at the moment and everyone would love to see him take on the role. His Batman would be the perfect combination of good-looking, smart, and slightly obscure, so if he took the role it would certainly be popular.
