I started Next Projection as a one man blog, but soon realized that if I was going to take to our brand to the heights I wanted, I would need the talents of several others and here we are four years later, united by our passion for cinema, working towards a common goal, bound by friendships forged, and not once looking back. I owe a lot to everyone listed below, so please take the time to explore their work, comment when you feel inclined, and come back when you can.
Behind me you see the empty bookshelves that my obsession with film has caused. Film teaches me most of the important concepts of life, such as cynicism, beauty, ugliness, subversion of societal norms, and what it is to be a tortured member of humanity. My passion for the medium is an important part of who I am as I stumble through existence in a desperate and frantic search for objective truths.
Director of News & Film Critic
Derek was the only engineer at Northeastern University taking a class on German film and turning a sociology research paper into an examination of Scorsese’s work. Now in Austin, TX, he blatantly abuses his Netflix account on the reg, although his List mocks him as it proudly sits healthily above 200. He continues to fight the stigma that being good at math means you are not any no good at writing. I good write, very much.
Stacia Kissick Jones
Director of Film & Film Critic
From the moment she heard that computer ask, “How about a nice game of chess?” Stacia has been devoted to movies. A film critic and writer for the better part of a decade, Stacia also plays classical guitar, reads murder mysteries and shamelessly abuses both caffeine and her Netflix queue.
Director of Movies On Demand & Film Critic
Ronan Doyle is an Irish undergraduate film student and freelance critic, whose work has appeared on Indiewire, FilmLinc, Film Ireland, FRED Film Radio, and otherwhere. When not watching movies, reading about movies, writing about movies, or thinking about movies, he can be found talking about movies on Twitter. He is fuelled by tea and has heard of sleep, but finds the idea frightfully silly.
Director of Festival Content
Firm believer in the power of cinema as an agent of change, and advocate of all inspired and inspiring filmmaking (preferably at the same time). He secretly wishes Werner Herzog narrated his life. Email me at
Films are far more than an escape for me, it is the most expressive medium of art. It contains many permutations and combination of possibilities and I like to examine it all with a fine tooth comb and see how well they bind together. So with much enthusiasm I share with you this keen interest..
Film has been a central part of my life as long as I can remember and it continues to mold who I am. My ” movies to watch” list is miles longer than my “movies I have watched” list. My only regret is not having enough time to watch them all.
Television Editor & Film/TV Critic
Jordan Ferguson is a lifelong pop culture fan, and would probably never leave his couch if he could get away with it. When he isn’t wasting time “practicing law” in Los Angeles, he writes about film, television, and music. In addition to serving as TV Editor and Senior Staff Film Critic for Next Projection, Jordan is a contributor to various outlets, including his own personal site, Review To Be Named (where he still writes sometimes, promise). Check out more of his work atReviewtobenamed.com, follow him on twitter @bobchanning, or just yell really loudly on the street. Don’t worry, he’ll hear.
Director of Special Features & Staff Critic
I am a film enthusiast and critic in Grand Rapids, Michigan who started writing on my film blog, RJG Film Analysis, and co-hosting The Cinema Breakdown podcast. One day, I’ll watch the perfect movie while drinking the perfect beer…until then, I’ll have to settle by watching “Lost in Translation” with a Rochefort 10.
Awards Pundit, Film Critic, Co-host of ProjectionCast
I married into the cult of cinema at a very young age – I wasn’t of legal marriage age, but I didn’t care. It has taken advantage of me and abused me many times. Yet I stay in this marriage because I’m obsessed and consumed. Don’t try to save me — I’m too far gone.
