John Boyega Detroit

Oscar-winning director Kathryn Bigelow turns turns her gaze to the 1967 Detroit riots in her upcoming and aptly named Detriot. This movie sports a massive cast that includes John Boyega, Will Poulter, Algee Smith, Jacob Latimore, Jason Mitchell, Hannah Murray, Kaitlyn Dever, Jack Reynor, John Krasinski and Anthony Mackie. And that’s just the start.

Detroit appears to be a sprawling, visceral narrative. Bigelow’s Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty collaborator Mark Boal is credited with the script. The film is set for an August 4 release, curious timing given the Oscar buzz Bigelow’s last two films received. It is worth noting that The Hurt Locker originally opened in July before eventually being met with Oscar glory.

I never knew how movies could make your imagination soar until I saw "Star Wars," I never realized how inspiring they could be until I saw "Rocky," and I never truly appreciated film until I saw "Goodfellas." Film has been a central part of my life as long as I can remember and it continues to mold who I am. My " movies to watch" list is miles longer than my "movies I have watched" list. My only regret is not having enough time to watch them all.
