Ben Wheatley follows up his 1975-set High Rise with another film set in the same decade. Free Fire, which is currently getting a festival run at TIFF, chronicles a meeting between two gangs in 1978 Boston that turns into an extended shootout. In what is arguably Wheatley’s most eclectic cast assembled yet, the film stars Brie Larson, Armie Hammer, Cillian Murphy, Sharlto Copley, and Jack Reynor.
Free Fire is set for release from A24, who remains the most exciting studio working today. Written by Wheatley and his frequent writing partner Amy Jump, it is scheduled for a 2017 release.
