I've always loved movies, but it wasn't until under the tutelage of Professor Garry Leonard at the University of Toronto that my passion for the industry became an understanding of an art form. With a specific fascination in both the western genre and Asian cinema in general, I am of the view that good movies are either enlightening or entertaining, and if you are truly lucky they are both.

Ah, Empire of the Sun continues to be overlooked. But at least Jaws is in its rightful spot up top. :)

Surprised by the love for Minority Report and Catch Me if You Can.

Was hoping for more love for ‘Duel’, since that’s the movie that really put Spielberg on the map. Since I haven’t seen ‘A.I.’, ‘Catch Me If You Can’, or ‘Munich’ I guess I can’t protest too much.

A.I. is too high on Misch’s list, and too low on the other. At least CRYSTAL SKULL didn’t make it.

Where on earth is THE COLOR PURPLE? Boo-urns! Glad to see that Catch Me If You Can made it, though!

With Spielberg, there’s just too much there and unfortunately some good still slip through the cracks when compiling a list like this.

Crystal Skull did receive one vote thought. One vote too many if you ask me!

You need to see all those three immediately :)

Not a fan of Minority Report?

I actually like it a lot. I just didn’t think it would register so high on the list because no one really seems to discuss it as one of Spielberg’s best. Same with Catch Me If You Can-I like it too, didn’t realize others liked it so much though.

Close Encounters belongs higher up the list in my opinion. Come on Chris it didn’t even make your top 10? One of the sci-fi classics of all time. I also agree that A.I. is too high up on the list, its not his best film (its generally just Pinocchio with high tech, maybe that’s sellling it short). But then again I am not a fan of Spielberg’s Hollywood fare generally.

I really don’t think AI should be classified as Spielberg’s Hollywood fare.

Really like that you gave some love to “A.I.” because I think most people hate that movie.  I thought it was underrated but would gain more respect as time went on.  I do think The Color Purple needs to be cited somewhere, as it truly is also one of Spielberg’s finest work.

I really can’t understand the hate towards AI. It’s a very misunderstood film.

I had Jaws in my #1 spot and I am thrilled to see it rank out on top. This is amazing considering the film is over 35 years old! It is such a great movie.

I have to admit that I pretty much agree with the “Your Selections” list as is. I have to rewatch Catch Me if You Can as it has been a while since I’ve seen that one.

    Good list.

Lost World: Jurassic Park received absolutely no votes!

I voted for the Lost World. I put it as Lost World. Forgot to add Jurassic Park to the title. >:(
Glad to see half my list made it.
