Pan (2015)

No this is not a film about the endlessly sexual Greek god (is that happening ever?), but yet another in a long line of recent forays into the world of Peter Pan. If the many TV incarnations, first Once Upon a Time, then another live musical special, weren’t enough, the familiar tale is once again heading to the big screen. But wait, it’s totally different this time because it’s a prequel, and Hook still has both of his hands. A Peter Pan origin story, that’ll get butts in seats. Here’s the synopsis, courtesy of IMDB:

The story of an orphan who is spirited away to the magical Neverland. There, he finds both fun and dangers, and ultimately discovers his destiny — to become the hero who will be forever known as Peter Pan.

This time it is directed by Joe Wright (intriguing) but written by Jason Fuchs, who can only boast Ice Age: Continental Drift as his feature writing experience (depressing). Here’s the trailer where you can see all of the Hugh Jackman in full theater mode and the whitewashing of Tiger Lily that you could hope for.

Pan stars Hugh Jackman, Amanda Seyfried, Rooney Mara, and Garrett Hedlund, and is scheduled to hit theaters July 17, 2015.
