Daredevil (2015)
Marvel is continuing to takeover the world of film and TV. It seems like everyday there is something to be said about the Marvel Cinematic Universe, or at the very least some new art for Avengers: Age of Ultron. Last year, the company made its first real push into television with Agents of SHIELD, a series that in its second season has really come into its own. Then, as somewhat of a companion series, they premiered Agent Carter which is succeeding largely on the charm of Hayley Atwell. But now, as entertainment moves to the internet, so does Marvel with the first trailer for the Netflix series Daredevil.
From the looks of this trailer, Marvel is happy to make us forget all about what happened with Ben Affleck. The violence is certainly more grounded and although it has become a cliche at this point, we are definitely getting a darker and grittier version of Daredevil (complete with Man Without Fear costume). With executive producers Steven S. DeKnight, Jeph Joeb, and Drew Goddard at the helm, there is some heightened expectations involved, but overall the trailer feels a bit underwhelming. It is just generally fine, and unfortunately feels a bit Gotham-y (which is not a good thing), so we’ll see if Marvel is able to continue its streak of success.
We’ll see how Charlie Cox does as Matt Murdoch when the series premieres on Netflix on April 10.
