In 2010, Tim Burton made Disney incredibly happy when his Alice In Wonderland crossed the billion dollar mark at the box office. Five years have passed, and Disney is itching to make even more money off Lewis Carroll’s love letter to hallucinogenics.
This time around,James Bobin replaces Burton in the director’s chair. Robin directed the last two Muppets movies and established himself with Da Ali G Show and Flight of the Concords. Screenwriter Linda Woolverton returns to write the screenplay. Also returning are the many familiar faces from the first film, from Johnny Depp to Alan Rickman. The main new addition this time around in Sacha Baron Cohen, who plays the film’s villain.
Alice Through the Looking Glass opens in theaters May 27, 2016. It will open next to X-Men: Apocalypse.
