In 2013, James Wan’s The Conjuring brought in an incredible worldwide box office of $318 million, making it the highest grossing film of all time behind the original Exorcist. A prequel was released in the form of Annabelle, and despite not being not well-received critically the third feature film from the man behind Mortal Kombat: Anihlation and Butterfly Effect 2 brought in a worldwide total of over $256 million on a $6.5 million budget.
Warner Brothers has found a gold mine here, and their forthcoming The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist is likely to be one of their biggest films next year. Director and cowriter James Wan return swith his original cast members Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson investigating another creepy house. The film is set to open June 10.
