Though it may be easy to associate the Coen brothers with awards-friendly fall releases, the cinematic duo has also had great success in the first months of the year. Among others, Fargo, Raising Arizona, Hudsucker Proxy and The Big Lebowski were all released in March. With the exception of January’s Blood Simple, the forthcoming Hail, Caesar! will be the earliest a Coen brothers film has ever been released.
The duo’s followup to Inside Llewyn Davis returns them to Hollywood-set comedy. The latest trailer recalls to mind the repetitive technique used in the stellar trailer for A Serious Man. The new trailer focuses on a confrontation between a frustrated director (Ralph Fiennes) and an accent-challenged actor (Alden Ehrenreich). The film interjects footage that is mostly already familiar from the previous trailer, but the hilarity of the one scene can’t be understated. The film also features George Clooney, Josh Brolin, Scarlett Johansson, Jonah Hill Channing Tatum, Frances McDormand and Tilda Swinton. Hail, Caesar! opens February 5.
