Mr. Holmes (2015)
It’s been a while since it’s felt like director Bill Condon was back in his element. Sure, one could argue that he was the best thing that happened to the Twilight saga, but is that really what we want to see from the guy who made Dreamgirls, Kinsey and Gods and Monsters? Does anyone remember The Fifth Estate?
Though thoroughly proficient in big budget spectacle, Condon returns to small intimate character pieces with Mr. Holmes. Based on a book by Mitch Cullin, the film centers on an elderly Sherlock Holmes. Now retired, the great detective looks back on his life and grapples with an unsolved case.
The film stars two previous Condon collaborators, Ian McKellan (Gods and Monsters) and Laura Linney (Kinsey), as well as newcomer Milo Parker, who’s only other acting credit was in something called Robot Overlords. Release dates have to be set in stone, but the film will be arriving Summer 2015.
