How great is it that we have another Kenneth Branagh movie? Personally speaking, I think this guy doesn’t get enough love. His incredible adaptations of Shakespeare notwithstanding, the actor/director has brought us highly entertaining, beautifully rendered big studio films like Thor and Cinderella (his Jack Ryan film is incredibly underrated). His latest work is an adaptation of Agatha Christie’s highly popular novel, Murder on the Orient Express, adapted many times but perhaps most famously in the Oscar-winning 1974 Sidney Lumet film.
Branagh’s star-studded affair looks slick and beautiful (Branagh’s decision to shoot the film on 65mm certainly helped there), though I’m curious to see what kind of audience this film gets. This will definitely play well with the older crowd and to people like me who are fans of all things Hercule Poirot.
Murder on the Orient Express opens on November 10, nestled comfortably between the openings of Thor: Ragnarok and Justice League.
