Premiering to great acclaim at Sundance, director John Crowley’s Brooklyn seems to offer up a wonderful dish of old-fashioned romance. Set in the 1950s, the film stars Saoirse Ronan as an Irish girl who emigrates to America in search of a better life. She meets a boy and falls in love, but must soon travel back to Ireland after the death of her sister. Once back in Ireland, she meets another boy and must choose not only between the two boys she loves, but between two countries as well.
Adapted for the screen by Nick Hornby, Brooklyn also features Domhall Gleeson, Michael Zegen, Brendan Gleeson and Julie Walters. It is set for a November 6 release.
In 1950s Ireland and New York, young Ellis Lacey has to choose between two men and two countries.
