With its debut at TIFF and the Venice Film Festival less than a month away, Paramount has released its first official look at Denis Villeneuve’s Arrival. Amy Adams stars as Dr. Louise Banks, an expert linguist who is recruited by the military to communicate with aliens who have landed on the planet and determine wether or not they come in peace.
Arrival marks Villeneuve’s second film in a row featuring a female protagonist, following last year’s Oscar-nominated Sicario. Jeremy Renner, Forest Whitaker and Michael Stuhlbarg round out the rest of the cast, and the script by Eric Heisserer (The Thing, A Nightmare on Elm Stret) was based on a short story Ted Chiang.
A full trailer is set for release next week, but this first trailer has already done a great job of capturing the film’s mood and igniting intrigue. The film is set to hit theaters mid November.
