I didn't have a Star Wars themed birthday party until I turned 27. It's all downhill from there. Forever wishing I could be Rose Byrne in Damages, and will always be grateful for Liz Lemon, who taught men and women everywhere that when you have greasy pizza hands, socks serve as a great alternative to napkins.
Peter Prentice is gone! Mindy is pregnant! Mindy loves San Francisco! Danny bought a brownstone! SO much happened in this thirty minute sitcom, and though all of what I just typed above, sounds like it could have made it a terrible episode, the writers are so strong on this show, it worked in every way.
I KNEW they were setting up Kai and Nick to break up. If this review were a courtroom, I would ask you to bring up my last review where I said the writers were potentially setting the scene for Kai to break up with Nick over his new found ambition.
Sorry this is coming in a bit late folks, it was Super Bowl Sunday, and although my team wasn’t in.. well, you get the picture. So I pick up and continue along Shameless’ season 5 ride, and so far my thoughts are this - when you have a season as good as Shameless did last year, it’s hard to continue on at that speed.
Every Shameless episode I’m in awe of Emmy Rossum’s performance. How she has never won any award for her efforts continuously astounds me. In a show that’s sometimes so ridiculous you could never believe the story-lines, she brings an emotional weight to it that grounds it in reality.
Is there a reason that Nick and Kai are barely shown showing emotion together? Is this a writer’s ploy to make sure the audience doesn’t get too attached? After tonight’s New Girl, I think so.
When we left our Gallagher family last season, Fiona was out of jail, and hopefully on an upward swing, Mickey was willing to support Ian and help him through his illness, Debbie was dealing with the issues of becoming a woman, Lip had become the patriarch of the family, and was attending college, and Carl was drinking with Frank.
Watching the show I had one of those moments where I thought, how do they come back from this? In the “mid-season” finale, a term that still grates on my nerves, there was a glimmer of hope. Henry, a complex character played by the fantastic Noble, changed his tune and destroyed Moloch.
I have a love hate with Christmas themed shows with a strong romantic comedy background. The fact that almost this entire episode takes place in the airport, is an homage to all those rom-com Christmas movies (and, really, any romantic comedy) come before it.
New Girl is on a roll. They’ve really found their rhythm this season, and I’m so glad. This show started out so well, became one of the best single camera sitcoms on network television in season two, and then faltered in three.
Things moved forward! Ichabod loves motorbikes! So many things! Watching this show still feels slightly like I’m banging my head against a wall as the plot runs itself in circles, but it was slightly more tolerable this week.
