Sleepy Hollow, Season 2, Episode 12, “Paradise Lost”
Watching the show I had one of those moments where I thought, how do they come back from this? In the “mid-season” finale, a term that still grates on my nerves, there was a glimmer of hope. Henry, a complex character played by the fantastic Noble, changed his tune and destroyed Moloch. First of all, I didn’t actually expect Moloch to be dead, but I did find that story-line had sunk to the point of being dead in the water, but no Henry?
I feel like these reviews are turning into “a solemn, angry recap of things that bothered Lauren,” ah-well, I guess that’s how it shall be until the writers get their heads on straight. Biggest gripe this episode is Katrina’s role. Why she there, bro? Now that she’s free of the clutches of Henry, because she’s a good mommy, the writers have a chance to redeem her character. Make her a bad-ass witch, flourish her relationship with Ichabod, etc. etc. Instead, she decides she wants to save Abraham. Now, we all know Abbie and Ichabod have boat loads more chemistry than Katrina and him, and that this may be an elaborate set up to align her with Abraham, and perhaps even make her a villain, which would be kind of cool, but right now she just looks like a very weak character.
They try and keep things interesting, and use the plot device of monsters escaping from purgatory sot hey can introduce a monster of the week. It’s a good idea in theory, but their monsters need to match shows of the past, including Buffy, The X-Files, and even Supernatural, and as of right now, they certainly don’t. An Angel named Orion who wants to skewer the human race comes around, tries to tempt Abbie, etc.
